2011 - Jeanne Chadbourne

Jeanne Chadbourne - 2011

It is with great pleasure and gratitude that we name Jeanne Chadbourne the recipient of the 2011 Distinguished Citizen Award. Perhaps you have seen her walking her dog, Tim, on the town sidewalk. Jeanne was part of the committee that made the sidewalk, that many enjoy, possible. Perhaps you have received a warm smile from Jeanne when you went to give blood or vote. An Ohio native, Jeanne moved to North Yarmouth from Chebeague Island in 1977 and has given generously of her time since then. Mrs. Chadbourne taught fourth, fifth, and sixth grades in MSAD 51 for 28 years. Although retired, she is still connected to children through her recent volunteer work at the Mabel I. Wilson School, private tutoring, and serving on the Parks and Recreation committee. Jeanne also gave to our community by serving two terms on the Board of Selectmen and the MSAD 51 School Board. She continues to serve others by overseeing functions at the Congregational Church Fellowship Hall, is a member of the Stewardship Committee, and is a church Trustee.

Sometimes Jeanne “sits” by serving on committees and sometimes she plays an active roll by organizing monthly Lion’s Club dinners at the church. Leave it to Jeanne to both sit and be active at the same time as when she mows the lawn at Skyline Farm. This is an activity she especially enjoys, perhaps because Tim helps her mow by riding on her lap!

When told of our decision to give Jeanne the Citizen of the Year Award she said, “I was first embarrassed, then humbled, and then honored. I don’t do these things to be recognized.” We know that, but just the same, we find Jeanne to be a very giving person and are proud to recognize her. If you have never met Jeanne Chadbourne and received one of her warm welcoming smiles or friendly waves while walking Tim early in the morning, introduce yourself to her today! Congratulations, Jeanne!
